Restaurants around the world

Tizziani – worth the detour

Zurich – This restaurant is a little far any tram or train station. I think this is why I haven’t been here before.

But the detour is worth it anyway. The staff is really friendly and attentive. The food is cooked fresh every day and awarded with 13 points Gault Millau.

The atmosphere in this small restaurant is cozy and taken care to every small detail. In summer there is a small terrace.

Peña Barcelonista – Chiringuito style lunch

Malaga – about 10 minutes outside from Malaga is “El Palo” a rather ordinary outskirt but if you really want to enjoy fresh fish and seafood you just have to cross the street and go to one of the little restaurants at the beachfront. There are too many and for most you cannot reserve a table.

The chiringuitos are very simple restaurants or bars directly at the beach, some tables are even placed in the sand. But what you get for your money is outstanding in taste and quality.
Entertainment is guaranteed as well as you can watch people strolling along the beach and enjoy the Spanish sun…or watch and listen to the guys at the grill boat arguing with each other…we haven’t found out the reason. We were a little worried if they would forget about our merluza (sea bass) that was burning on the little boat grill but when it came on our plates it was wonderfully juicy and tasted just great as the shrimps pil pil, fresh tomato salad and fried baby fish.

Damas -kuss

Zurich – I have been to Damas for lunch and dinner and was excited about both visits.

The staff is extraordinarily friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. If you like Lebanese food you need to go. I found the salads for lunch very refreshing and filling….have a look at the sizes of the portions.

The “Damaskuss” is a cocktail made from prosecco and hibiscus syrup….dangerously yummy. The name of the drink plays with the word “kuss” that means “kiss” in German – “Damaskus” (capital of Syria).

Bindella – Italian classic in Zurich

Zurich – I haven’t been to Bindella restaurant (In Gassen, near Paradeplatz) for years. I still remember the “Gnocchi alla Gorgonzola” and found they were the best I ever had.

Some time went by and my disappointment was that I could not find any Gnocchi on the menu. The waiter explained that they do not serve them every day. So I have a reason to go again.

The restaurant is very elegant and people dress up.

My choice of Osso bucco was perfect. Tender, juicy and the Saffron Risotto al dente as it has to be. Spaghetti can be ordered also gluten free.

Antigua Casa de Guardia – Like Sherry?

Malaga – I remember this rather small, dark and authentic sherry (Jerez) bar from my language school stay….some 15 years ago. I recommend to go there before dinner and have some tapas as well.
I was astonished as the place has not changed at all….only the prices are now in Euros instead of Spanish Pesetas.

My favourite sherry was the Pajarete. You can just ask the waiter and he will explain…but it is helpful if you speak some Spanish.

I like the way how the present your bill – written with chalk on the bar….and maybe this sounds gross, but the bar counter is soaked with sherry and makes it a bit sticky….I found it charming if that makes any sense to you?

On one of the pics you may discover a very famous artist….

Hopfenkranz – Eating out at the neighbors

Lucerne – A lovely place near Löwendenkmal (Lion monument), one of the most visited sights in Lucerne.

The restaurant has an open and friendly room with high ceiling. You can watch the chef creating the selected dishes as the kitchen is visible from almost every table.

The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive to make us feel welcomed as we were neighbors from next door – my friend actually is 🙂

It is closed Saturday and Sunday.
