La Santa Sete – simple and good

Zurich – a friend suggested this new restaurant (since 2020) in Zurich to me. Sometimes it’s worth trying something new, this time we were rewarded.
The service was most attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is wonderful – you really feel like you’re in Italy – and the food was great. I love brussels sprouts so I was delighted to have the vegetable as a starter with bacon and dates.
For the main course, I chose the tagliatelle and could easily add the sauce that is actually served with the fregola. Simply great, it feels a little like you were having a dinner at your “nonna”‘s kitchen.

Some impressions

Osteria Santo Brevitore….pasta con amore!

Zurich

In this Corona summer I have not yet been abroad….as many other people around the world too I guess. So I thought I need at least some culinary short trip to Italy. Santo Brevitore in Zurich is the right choice for this.
The restaurant is located in the middle of Zurich Wiedikon. The menu card will treat every taste but will melt the heart of every pasta lover. So I just HAD to order the “Tris di pasta” three kinds of pasta on one plate. I can only say that the portion was huge but every gram was worth it. One pasta with mussels, one with minced meat and truffle, the third with some kind of Italian cream cheese….mouthwatering still when I think about it now. The appetizers and the wines are also worth the visit. The atmosphere is very relaxed, in summer you can also sit outside on the troittoir. On our Saturday evening out, an alphorn player (no joke) passed by and gave a short performance – in the middle of Zurich.

La Guingueta and Xiringuito Escriba

Barcelona (Playa del Bogatell) – As we wanted to spend some time at the beach but also have a decent lunch, we chose La Guingueta/Xiringuito Escriba – actually two restaurants working together: one restaurant at the beach, the other just over the beach foot path.

The great thing is, everything you can eat in the restaurant can also be served at your beach space. The umbrella and the sunbeds cost some extra but it is so relaxing and therefore so very much worth it.

The food was very good, if you are a frequent reader of this blog you remember my post about the other “La Guingueta in Barceloneta“. The food quality was the same high standard. Escriba is also a bakery/shop in Barcelona…so desserts should be great as well, sadly, we were full and not able to try any more….

Siam Asia Shop – Smile included

Wädenswil – Last week, I wasn’t in the mood to cook something for lunch. I haven’t had Asian food for ages and so I thought I’ll go again to Poo’s Siam Asia Shop for something to take home. You can do take away with daily changing menus or sit down for lunch or an early dinner and choose something à la carte. There are some 20 seats inside and some outside on the little terrace. If you want to cook for yourself, they even have a small Asian grocery selection.

If you are looking for a special catering, Poo and her staff do this as well. I was lucky and experienced it already many times and everything was just delicious and the guests always excited.

Bar Borda Berri – Pinxtos, pinxtos, pinxtos

San Sebastian – This bar is one of the many great pinxtos bars in the old town. Don’t forget to order the hot pinxtos as well and do not only eat the ones displayed at the bar.

Best time to go? Actually, any time of the day. You can go before or after the beach (about 10 mins walk from concha beach) in your flip flops or also in the evening but keep in mind that Spain still has the Siesta in the later afternoon.

La Viña del Ensanche – Bar, shop and restaurant

Bilbao – The Basque Country has so many good restaurants, but the “La Viña del Ensanche” is one of my favourites in Bilbao! The venue has a bar, a shop and an elegant restaurant with a set menu. The menu contains 7 courses for 50 EUR and changes regularly.

When I go next time, I will probably have the apero in the bar or do one evening with pinxtos in the bar and the other in the restauant.

To reach the restaurant you need to walk through the shop. The delicatessen look great and is full of the best of the Spanish and Basque kitchen…

The dinner itself was just great and we took some ideas home to try to cook at home as for example warm green fettuccine pasta nicely arranged in gazpacho soup.

Pinxto Bar Plaza Euskadi – from breakfast till late afternoon

Bilbao – If you are looking for a really delicious coffee and croissant in the morning you should go to the bar at Plaza Euskadi in Bilbao (just 5 mins from Guggenheim museum). They also serve a wide range of mouth watering cold and hot pinxtos, freshly squeezed orange juice, and wine and beer in the afternoon.

You better don’t go around 10ish, when the Iberdrola office staff queues for their morning break.

Milchbar – Lunch, dinner and hotel

Zurich – Last week there was probably just one sunny day. This was perfect to have lunch on the terrace of MIlchbar: a small restaurant in a cozy patio with a waterspout fountain near Paradeplatz.

I had graved salmon with cucumber soup – very refreshing and light. My colleague chose the pasta which I heard was great too.

The Milchbar even has one room to stay. So if you are a visitor in Zurich and look for a special room, in the heart of Zurich….looks ideal.
