The Standard High Line Hotel – Hotel, Roof Top Bar and Lounge – way above the standard…

New York – One of my favourite location during my last visit in New York was definitively the Standard High Line Hotel besides the High Line Park.

The complex is located in the Gansevoort/Meat packing area where there are other countless great places to shop or eat/drink.

On the ground floor of the Standard is a  lounge “The Standard Plaza” where you can relax outside in summer and drink or eat all day/evening long. The Biergarten also belongs to the hotel…I do not have to explain what the Biergarten is?

But my favourite spot is on the very top of the building: The BAR. “The Top of the Standard”. You have stunning views over the city and the water. But you should also look inside: The architecture, decoration…and most stunning staff with the most amazing shiny silk mini dresses I have seen as a “staff uniform”….So it does not really matter if you go during afternoon, enjoy the sunset or the night scenery, your eyes will be delighted anyway.

The also do brunch on Sunday, book in advance, cocktail attire is required.

Raymi – New York, Peru and back!

New York – People say Peru has one of the World’s best kitchens. But why does it seem so difficult to find good restaurants that are capable to serve a good ceviche or tiraditos….not to mention the REAL pisco sour.

But in New York we were lucky. We found Raymi and started with a pisco sour ….and ended with some emptied glasses of it. I can really recommend – if you are not hungry – just go and have a pisco.

The food was delicious as well. Definitively to go again.

Eneperi Jatetxea – tongue breaker but with a stunning view over the Biscay sea

Between Bilbao and San Sebastian – just overlooking San Juan de Gaztelugatxe…

The Basque language is a little different than any other language of its neighbors and so are the names of the restaurants and locations.

We did a day trip to the coast of Biscay and wanted to see the little church on the islet San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. The little stone bridge that connects the mainland was constructed by men and reminds me a bit of a miniature version of the Chinese Wall.

First I thought the restaurant on top with the view over the sea and islet is just a tourist trap but we were so hungry so we gave it a try.

We ate wonderful fresh local fish (Besugo) and salad. The restaurant actually does only have a few tables with a view. If you just want to enjoy a drink, you can also install on the terrace with the panoramic windows that serve food from the bar.

Bar Borda Berri – Pinxtos, pinxtos, pinxtos

San Sebastian – This bar is one of the many great pinxtos bars in the old town. Don’t forget to order the hot pinxtos as well and do not only eat the ones displayed at the bar.

Best time to go? Actually, any time of the day. You can go before or after the beach (about 10 mins walk from concha beach) in your flip flops or also in the evening but keep in mind that Spain still has the Siesta in the later afternoon.

Pinxto Bar Plaza Euskadi – from breakfast till late afternoon

Bilbao – If you are looking for a really delicious coffee and croissant in the morning you should go to the bar at Plaza Euskadi in Bilbao (just 5 mins from Guggenheim museum). They also serve a wide range of mouth watering cold and hot pinxtos, freshly squeezed orange juice, and wine and beer in the afternoon.

You better don’t go around 10ish, when the Iberdrola office staff queues for their morning break.

Milchbar – Lunch, dinner and hotel

Zurich – Last week there was probably just one sunny day. This was perfect to have lunch on the terrace of MIlchbar: a small restaurant in a cozy patio with a waterspout fountain near Paradeplatz.

I had graved salmon with cucumber soup – very refreshing and light. My colleague chose the pasta which I heard was great too.

The Milchbar even has one room to stay. So if you are a visitor in Zurich and look for a special room, in the heart of Zurich….looks ideal.
