Les Halles

Zurich – Last week I went for lunch with two colleagues to Les Halles. Do not confuse with La Salle, just about 2 minutes walk away but a totally different style and different prices.
Over lunch the people in Les Halles offer menus that have a good value. Drinks you get from the bar and adding up a little coin you also get a coffee included. In the evening it is highly recommended to make a reservation.

The atmosphere and decoration is fantastic with everything in retro one can find of the last 40 years. Les Halles offers also some tables outside and a little shop for cheese and dried meat.

Mallorca – On the other side of the old town of Palma there is a newish part for going out. The food is mouth-watering if I think of it now….Ceviche interpreted in a new way. The chef is German but got his experience from many years living and working in Japan. The sushis are a must. They also have the 4kilo wine

Mallorca – modern tapas bar in Palma, very good food, good wines (they have even the 4kilo wine, also for take away), relaxed atmosphere. Better make a reservation if you are more than two people.

Nautic

Mallorca – Situated in the middle of the yacht harbour of Palma. Very good and fresh food, wonderful 360 degree view of all the nice boats. You can eat inside with a view or on the terrace. Better make a reservation and it can be a little posh….

Tasca de Blanquerna – Closed in 2014

Mallorca – A must in Palma. This is the little sister of the MISA restaurant of Marc Fosh and also known by locals as “Star kitchen for the poor”. You get the degu menu for 26 EUR including half a bottle of wine per person! Great food and if you reserve you can have a table in front of the open kitchen and watch the cooks spin around.

Baan Khanitha (Sukhumvit 23)

Bangkok – For me the best authentic Thai restaurant in Bangkok on a very high quality standard. The typical Thai style wooden house is embedded in a romantic garden. The restaurant has four different locations and I recommend going to the one on Sukhumvit 23, the others are a little impersonal.

Vertigo

Bangkok – The roof top of the hotel Banyantree hosts the restaurant Vertigo. The view over Bangkok is just spectacular and breathtaking. The food of the restaurant is international with an Asian twist and quite ok but pricey. You need to book in advance and respect the dress code. If you want to have a look you can also just go for a drink or two….
