Restaurants around the world

Pearl Brasserie – A gem in Dublin

Dublin – If you have enough from hamburgers, Irish stew and beer (not Guinness of course…) you should pay a visit to Pearl Brasserie.

We enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu with pairing wine for not more than 110 Euro which we found just fantastic. The food was delicious and the service (mainly French people) adorable and professional. You need a reservation and best do it 1 week in advance.

Krüst – Cronuts and bitcoins

Dublin – Sometimes it happens when you are in vacation that you are too late for breakfast in the hotel…Lucky we – that’s how we found Krüst bakery in Dublin. We were welcomed very heartily by Rob Kramer, one of the owners. His first questions was: Do you want to pay in bitcoins? As I did not have this currency liquid…I just paid in Euro. Coincidently the Irish Times was there to produce an article we found the other day in the newspaper (see article in the www.irishtimes.com).

If you like cronuts, donuts, brown bread, etc. you have to visit Krüst – I especially liked the oven fresh chocolate croissants!

George Grill – Looking terrific!

Zurich – A new restaurant in town that is worth waiting a week for a table. I visited George last week with a colleague for lunch. Already the way up to the top floor of the OBER building in the lift promises that there must be something special up there.
The welcome was very warm and friendly and we enjoyed a really nice table at the window as asked for in the reservation.
My salad was huge but not at all less in taste, to be hones one of the best salad I had in a long time in a restaurant. When I saw Tatar on the menu….I knew I had to go for this. I was not disappointed at all. I had the small portion for lunch and struggled to eat it up even though it was so good.
Therefore, I award George with 10 points for food, atmosphere, service, view and can’t wait to go again.

Keo Inn

Keo Inn, best Thai in town with its special charme just next to Langstrasse.

Never to forget Poo’s Asia Shop and Take away in Wädenswil http://www.siamasiashop.ch

Zurich – My favourite Thai restaurant in Zurich is the Keo Inn as the food is very authentic and service very nice and attentive. They even have the marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, one of my preferred. The Keo Inn is open 365 days a year and the atmosphere very relaxed and you feel comfortable in a suit directly after work or in a casual dress.

Barfussbar – Barefoot in Zurich

Zurich – What can you do when it’s summer and 35 degrees in Zurich?
You can go to an open air swimming pool that is actually the lake of Limmat, enjoy cool drinks, later in the evening dance and just enjoy the scenery of Zurich’s old town. There is a special summer program for concerts and parties. This recommendation is certainly not for food but if you are hungry, you can always have selected sandwiches and ice cream from Sorbetto “en masse”…

Le Diplomate – Fantastique!

Washington D.C. –  For my last birthday I was in Washington visiting. I was invited to “Le Diplomat” restaurant for brunch. The internet page explains it best: “Le Diplomate pays homage to French café culture by providing a comfortable place for everything from a cappuccino and croissant on a lazy weekend afternoon at brunch to a celebratory dinner out with friends or just a drink and dessert at the close of an evening.”
I had my best Croque Madame there and tasted the American version of Belon Oysters, accompanied by a nice bottle of champagne. What a treat! I highly recommend a visit whenever possible not only for the food but also the service and the nicely decorated venue.

The Hungry Cat

Santa Barbara – During our California holidays last December we ate in a really nice restaurant my best friend recommended to me. Again we were treated with delicious seafood and chose oysters as starter. Unfortunately the big seafood platter was out….maybe the cat? The restaurant has “siblings” in Santa Monica and Hollywood.

At this point I wanted to recommend a friend’s lifestyle blog called Citybabble that provides tips around the world for good places to go and see and much more interesting subjects. I really loved her latest post about the grand brunch in Zurich.

Eder’s Eichmühle

Wädenswil – To reach the restaurant is not too easy, but once there, the place is just picturesquely located between trees on a hill and from the parking you have a beautiful view over the lake. The house is quite old….ladies room a little mountain climbing with the tiny steps they have from the old days.
But let’s speak about the food. My mother invited me for a nice Easter lunch menu. There was a good choice on the menu: a little bit from everything, as you can see on the picture.
We both decided to go with the assiette of salmon, tuna and shrimp to begin. My mother chose for second fish and the “Gitzi” a little mountain goat, for main. I went for salad and prime beef with fresh liver, just beautifully in taste and presentation.
The owner told us he was there since 26 years and also his wife, daughter and son work there. Normally you would think maybe this is not the kid’s choice but they did it with so much passion and pleasure we felt almost “invited at a friend’s house”.
Specially, I would like to mention that we sat in the glass pavilion in the middle of the wonderful green garden arranged with countless handcrafted pots, plants and flowers. It must be beautiful also in summer but if it is a little chilly you have always the choice to sit inside. Two cats are also living in the house, so don’t be surprised, if a little fur ball strikes and purrs around your legs under the table…..
