Les Halles

Zurich – Last week I went for lunch with two colleagues to Les Halles. Do not confuse with La Salle, just about 2 minutes walk away but a totally different style and different prices.
Over lunch the people in Les Halles offer menus that have a good value. Drinks you get from the bar and adding up a little coin you also get a coffee included. In the evening it is highly recommended to make a reservation.

The atmosphere and decoration is fantastic with everything in retro one can find of the last 40 years. Les Halles offers also some tables outside and a little shop for cheese and dried meat.

CLOSED

Mallorca – On the other side of the old town of Palma there is a newish part for going out. The food is mouth-watering if I think of it now….Ceviche interpreted in a new way. The chef is German but got his experience from many years living and working in Japan. The sushis are a must. They also have the 4kilo wine

ABACO Bar

Mallorca – This is not a restaurant, but the setting of the bar is just great!  A medieval building in the old town of Palma, decorated luscious with fruits and vegetables. Good before or after dinner.

Vertigo

Bangkok – The roof top of the hotel Banyantree hosts the restaurant Vertigo. The view over Bangkok is just spectacular and breathtaking. The food of the restaurant is international with an Asian twist and quite ok but pricey. You need to book in advance and respect the dress code. If you want to have a look you can also just go for a drink or two….

Hotel and restaurant Puro

Mallorca – Stylish City Hotel in the middle of Palmas old town including a small lounge on the roof top, a bar (very lively on Friday and Saturday) and  a beach club about 20 mins away. The restaurant is also worth a visit but no terrace or view.

Bü’s

Zurich – Last Wednesday I went to Bü’s restaurant with a friend. I haven’t been there since years but always remembered the delicious calf’s liver (only on Tuesdays). The interior of the restaurant is a mix of bistro-Italian-cosy-elegant style. People are mostly over their 40ties. The service is very nice and attentive, legendary are the shirts of the owner…you must see yourself. The Bü’s is very popular and you need to book a table in advance except you are an Egyptian real estate investor in Andermatt you get a table immediately…Prices are moderate to high for what you get in quality and the food quite good. I need to go back for the liver on a Tuesday though.

Anjelique

Istanbul – Oertakoy, the place to be and a must while in Istanbul! For the Angelique you need to reserve about 1 week in advance. We were there on a Friday evening in October and could still sit outside directly at the Bosporus. The food was decent Mediterranean food with a Turkish twist but people watching and atmosphere satisfying even more. The Anjelique restaurant converts into a Bar and Club after dinner – if weather is nice only with a roof of stars!

Four Seasons at the Bosporus

Istanbul – Really worth going there for lunch on the terrace directly at the Bosporus. Order Mezze, also when they are not on the menu, this is really a perfect lunch accompanied with a nice Turkish wine while you are watching the ships coming and going……
