Adler – Flying high

Hurden – This bijou called “Adler” (eagle) is located directly on lake zurich between Rapperswil and Pfäffikon. For my mother’s birthday we wanted to have lunch at a special place and therefore chose the restaurant Adler. At lunchtime you can choose a menu of 2 – 4 courses (complete menu CHF 95) or a la carte from the main menu.
The food is really exceptionally good. The service is highly professional and friendly. We had my mother’s Viszla dog with us and she immediately got a bowl of water too.

Markus Gass – the chef – and his wife are very welcoming hosts and make sure every wish is read from their guest’s eyes.
The location (in summer under the shady trees) directly at the lake with a view of the Glarner Alps can hardly be topped. The numerous quacking ducks act as a background sound.

If you plan a visit, reserve your table, especially for summer evenings outside.

Fabiola – Just fabulous

Mallorca – I read in a magazine about the restaurant Fabiola. The pictures of the interior reminded me of an exotic garden or jungle with lots of green plants. As I read the menu, my mouth was watering instantly. The menu contains pretty much everything I like to eat.

Sitting finally in the restaurant, we had the agony of choice with ordering the modern interpreted tapas.

We ate a lot more as you can see in the pics, as everything was really good, we could not stop ordering more food. Also the bread you get (wam) in the beginning is a sin itself – crispy outside and inside soaked in olive oil! We ordered 2 bottles of Alion wine, that we also knew from Casa del Vino in Switzerland. A fantastic pairing with Spanish food.

Fera – Sake & wine pairing

Mallorca – Winter in Mallorca is boring? Not at all.

First of all you have space, because it has fewer tourists. Second, the sun shines more often in winter than elsewhere and the temperatures are still pleasant. Only one should note that outside of Palma (the the capital city of Mallorca island) a lot of the hotels and restaurans are closed from November to March.

A friend recommended Fera restaurant in the centre of Palma and it was really worth going. You can choose between different menus and if you like wine pairing, you can even do sake pairing. The food was not only very good in taste, but the presentation was very elaborate and unusual.

Seerose – Waterfront classic in Zurich

Zurich –  The restaurant Seerose a little outside the city of Zurich is a classic. I think it has one of the most beautiful terraces, built directly on the water. Even in winter you have a wonderful atmosphere with a view of Lake Zurich and the Alps in the distance. The food and the wines are always pretty good. If you want to come with your own boat, it has some moorings. The maneuver should have been practiced, because you have some viewers with you.
Definitely book ahead!

Josef – Tapas style dinner

Zurich – Josef has been a good address for good food for many years. It was an evening with my siblings were I was looking for a restaurant that match all type of “gusto” and something not too posh. What also kept me from visiting were the two shifts in the evening. I found out that this concept does not apply during the week. So the table was reserved on a Tuesday, as it was a warm and sunny day, we could even sit outside on the small terrace. The food is still very good as I remembered it.

I was so excited about the evening that three weeks later I reserved a table there again.

Kokoro – Authentic Japanese in Zurich

Zurich – I have heard many good things about Kokoro (the heart) but never managed to get a table. Some weeks ago I finally managed to book one. I was amazed and thrown back to Japan. The food was amazing, the staff very friendly and efficient and even the toilets are Japanese style (insiders know).

So if you are looking for an authentic Japanese dinner – not only containing sushi – you should reserve your table already today.

The prizes for the food are reasonable, but beware, the sake prizes add to the bill….

I will take some pics when I go next time….

Le P’tit Bleu – Simple and delicious from sea to table

La Rochelle – Do you like your seafood simple? Le P’tit Bleu (small Blue (Boat)) offers exactly this. You can choose between oysters, sword shell (“Couteaux” extraordinary good), squid, sardines, shrimps and a piece of butter and bread. You also have a choice of beer and wine, and that’s it.

The simple restaurant is located directly on the harbor of La Rochelle and offers a great view over the castle, the old town and the incoming and outgoing ships at high tide. I have rarely seen such an extreme change of tides as on the French Atlantic coast.

The terrace offers simple tables outside and is only open in good weather.

Au 14 Février – A festival for the taste buds

Lyon – Finally we managed to visit Lyon, the gourmet capital of the world…some say.

I found this small restaurant in an article and was not sure to really trust it. When the restaurant called me to confirm the reservation one week in advance, I realized that it was definitely not a small, simple pub.

My expectations rose and we were not disappointed. We knew the chef was Japanese, but when we were there, we felt a little like in Japan. All staff was Japanese and no small details in service, table setting was left to chance.

The menu costs 92 Euros but it is really worth it. It would not be surprising if Tsuyoshi Arai soon got an award for his kitchen.

Unfortunately the battery of my mobile was empty, so there are not so many pics of the delicious food.
