AuGust – Mighty Meat!

Zurich

tables can only be reserved for groups from 6. We just tried our luck on a Saturday around 7 pm. Of course, all was booked and the chef de service told us we have to wait about 1.5 hours.

As we anyway wanted to enjoy an apéro in the bar of the Widder (one of the most beautiful bars in Zurich – if not in the world. I think this should also go in to the guide “1000places.com“) this was perfect timing.

At 8 pm we got our table, a nice and cosy one right in the middle of the restaurant. There is a big meat buffet as you would see at a butcher when you go meat shopping. The restaurant is not very big but I really like the black and white interior design. AuGust opened in November 2014 and is attached to the Widder hotel – a unique and boutique 5*hotel in the heart of Zurich. The building complex of 9 town houses was converted in the 1970’s into a hotel by famous Swiss architect Tilla Theus.

Now to the food: My first course, the salmon tatar was the best I ever had! Great fish quality and spicy mixed with wasabi and chillies and some secret ingredients…

For the main we took the meat platter. It was very good but too much food for two people. The service person asked us if we wanted to have a doggy bad what we gratefully accepted.

Definitely worth visiting!

Razzia restaurant and bar

Zurich – We booked about 6 weeks in advance as the Razzia (a former cinema of the 20ies and a club of the 2000’s) is very popular since its re-opening as a restaurant in May 2014.

The interior is breathtakingly beautiful. You can imagine people visiting the cinema in the old times. Even the toilets are decorated in the same style and you can see the love for every little detail.

The food was really good and I was happy I shared the “Vermicelle” (Spaghetti made of chestnut purée, served with whipped cream, meringue and caramelized nuts) with my friend, as I think this was almost the best dish this evening.

The red wine “Veran” from Mallorca rounded the evening and was worth the price.

Bederhof and Bederbar

Zurich – Bederhof Restaurant and Bar are located in Zurich Enge, about 20 minutes from the main station. You find tradtiionial authentic Swiss food that considers local and seasonal food.

We always take the “Robespierre” and as the name says “makes its cuts precisely”….with the pommes alumettes. This time my husband tried the Wiener Schnitzel which was also very good.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and the staff friendly and efficient.

Bar A Dox – A lunch classic in Zurich

Zurich – To be honest, I haven’t been to Bar a Dox for quite some time…. until lately for lunch with a friend.

And what changed in about 5 years? I’d say: Nothing at all. The menu had the same dishes on it and so I had to have the “Suli’s Special”; salad with chicken stripes and complimentary focaccia bread.

In the evening it is a lively bar and in summer they have also some tables outside.

Faktorei – All about that fish!

Bäch – If you like fish and seafood you have to dine in the Faktorei. The historical building, located directly by the lake of Zurich, is a former salt factory on the trade route from Austria. It was where salt was distributed to central Switzerland.

I absolutely recommend to have the fish menu. It is a lot of food and also quite pricey but you can try a little bit of everything. I specially liked the lobster soup. You should reserve your table in advance!

Miracle -s happen in Zurich Seefeld

Zurich – Miraculous food in Zurich? Yes, it is true. We celebrated our dear friends birthday in the small and cosy Italian restaurant. The staff is really friendly and assists you in finding the right food. I chose the truffle tagliolini….mmmmm and the small pizza with wild boar and I did not regret it at all.

Refuge L’espace

Les Diablerets – on the 1st of January we managed to get on our skis and found this restaurant with its spectacular view and a massive rock that looked from far as a needle in the snow.

Beer was out – but we enjoyed the Swiss white wine, the soups and sausages just as well….

Cafe Boy – Oh boy…..!

Zurich – I have heard many good things about Cafe Boy. Finally, two weeks ago, I could experience it myself. I had veal liver on my plate – perfectly cooked and a beautiful flavour as it has to be! My friend chose veal on a celery-truffled mash…luckily she let me steal some of her food to try.

We also enjoyed some glasses of red wine from Mallorca, that paired perfectly.

Definitively worth going again soon…maybe today?
