Malaga – If you are a ham lover and like the simple but quality food in South Spain you should go to Meson Iberico. Make a reservation or queue early. It’s worth it.
Aviles (Asturia, North Spain) – On our trip from Galicia via Asturias and Leon to Madrid we visited Yume Gastro in Aviles. It is a small town in the north of Spain, near the beautiful and famous “As Catedrais” beach (in Galicia, Spain).
If you happen to be in the area, it’s worth to visit the restaurant for several reasons. The location of the restaurant in a futuristic tower is unique. The restaurant is located in the Oscar-Niemeyer cultural center. You have a great 360degree view from the tower. The food is great and the team amazing. There is a tasting menu with 6-8 courses for EUR 65. The beautifully arranged dishes were just great and you can see the hard work behind it. For the first course we were invited to visit the kitchen and see some of the preparation. Plan in enough time for a lunch or dinner.
Cape Town, Constantia – What a wonderful place! we enjoyed a very special dining experience with our friends in the Colombe. Already the surroundings and the interior of the restaurant are beautiful. The food is really phenomenal and also its presentation one of a kind – see more in the pictures. I can highly recommend a visit, just please book very early ahead.
Bubikon – My dear husband surprised me lately and took me to a restaurant that I probably wouldn’t have discovered myself. The bottom line: it was simply a great evening with incredibly good food and, of course, the best company. The gourmet restaurant of Gasthof Löwen in Bubikon is called “A priori”. i would go there again immediately. unfortunately, it is not very cheap 😉
Zurich – After the holidays and all the feasting, you’re actually always a little tired of eating out. However, my friend had been telling me about the restaurant KIN for a while, so yesterday I went there with her. The interior follows the concept of “reduced to the max” with dark colors. The incredibly good food has a wonderful stage to shine (the perfect lighting on the table helps too :-). We opted for the surprise menu and were definitively surprised with dishes that we might not have ordered on the normal menu. My highlights were the marrow bone ravioli and the dessert of pandan leaves ice-cream with pear and chocolate crumble. But try for yourself, definitely make a reservation.
Zurich – Japanese food is not limited to sushi only and the restaurant Bimi has been spoiling its guests with a variety of non-sushi Japanese delicacies since 2004.
I visited Bimi again yesterday and could not believe that I had never mentioned it in my blog before. My conclusion from last night is that everything was super tasty – as it actually has been every time that I visited the place before. Every dish, from the sardine sushi (first time raw sardines for me) to the grilled eel, the seaweed salad, and the yellowtail collar was equally delicious. I have never knowingly eaten yellowtail fish collar before, which is a cut of the fish that is located above the gills and below the head. It’s cheaper than the fillet but richer in flavour. The yellowtail belongs to the mackerel family and is a rather fatty fish which gives it even more taste. For dessert I treated myself to a matcha sorbet. The sake selection is great too. Or, if you prefer a glass of Franciacorta….it’s all available. A reservation is highly recommended
Helsinki – This summer, we were invited to our friends “mökki” (typically a wooden summer house on a lake in the country side). Actually, during the stay with our friends, we were spoiled culinary with the full palette of good Finnish food. Finland offers a great variety of fish, seafood and local meat, vegetables and fruits. This summer was exceptionally warm and we enjoyed more than 20 hours of sunshine every day.
After a wonderful time at the lake and multiple sauna sessions, we wanted to get to know the city of Helsinki. We were lucky, to get a table at the Michelin star awarded OLO (olo means “feeling”), as we had planned our trip on rather short notice.
We chose the 10 course OLO menu, Scandinavian dishes with modern and international nuances. It was just amazing – have a look at the pictures.
