Da Franco – Penne, penne, penne, penne, penne and great Gnocchi!

Pfaeffikon SZ – If you live in Switzerland you may have seen the TV show of gourmet chef Daniel “Bumann – Der Restauranttester” where he visits restaurants and helps them to become successful (again).

Da Franco never had a problem with the quality of the food but the owner changed due to circumstances and when Franco and his Lucia finally came back nobody really knew. After the TV show Franco’s tables are full again and people enjoy the authentic Italian kitchen.

The atmosphere is simple but you really should try the Gnocchi and the Pizza dello chef.

Siam Asia Shop – Smile included

Wädenswil – Last week, I wasn’t in the mood to cook something for lunch. I haven’t had Asian food for ages and so I thought I’ll go again to Poo’s Siam Asia Shop for something to take home. You can do take away with daily changing menus or sit down for lunch or an early dinner and choose something à la carte. There are some 20 seats inside and some outside on the little terrace. If you want to cook for yourself, they even have a small Asian grocery selection.

Poo, in front of her Siam Asia Shop

If you are looking for a special catering, Poo and her staff do this as well. I was lucky and experienced it already many times and everything was just delicious and the guests always excited.

Obstgarten – Reopened

Freienbach – In autumn 2014, Fredi Bloch moved from his former restaurant  “Seeli” to this new location more or less to the other side of the street. The plates contain a lot of local fish are famous and we liked it already in Seeli. By the way, restaurant Seeli just reopened after some building works just 1 week ago and I am excited to visit it as well.

So, if you like fish in a traditional cozy house (frame /timbered house) then you should not wait to visit!

Faktorei – All about that fish!

Bäch – If you like fish and seafood you have to dine in the Faktorei. The historical building, located directly by the lake of Zurich, is a former salt factory on the trade route from Austria. It was where salt was distributed to central Switzerland.

I absolutely recommend to have the fish menu. It is a lot of food and also quite pricey but you can try a little bit of everything. I specially liked the lobster soup. You should reserve your table in advance!

Johannisburg – Wild season

Altendorf – On top of the hill of Altendorf you find this unspectacular restaurant (from the inside…) but with a stunning view over lake Zurich. I really recommend to have a typical seasonal plate with roast saddle of venison, red cabbage, chestnuts, Brussels sprout and spaetzle. It is a bit pricy but you get a lot of food. So next time I would set aside the salad for only the plate and maybe a dessert….. www.johannisburg.ch

Chez Crettol – Cheese fondue and raclette in Zurich “Valais style”

Küsnacht

Do you like cheese?

At Chez Crettole you get the best cheese fondue and raclette outside Valais region in Switzerland. You can choose from many different styles and sizes of fondues and raclette cheese is melded at the open fire place – wonderful!

There is no Internet page but another experience from another blogger I like Harrys Ding.

Eder’s Eichmühle

Wädenswil – To reach the restaurant is not too easy, but once there, the place is just picturesquely located between trees on a hill and from the parking you have a beautiful view over the lake. The house is quite old….ladies room a little mountain climbing with the tiny steps they have from the old days.
But let’s speak about the food. My mother invited me for a nice Easter lunch menu. There was a good choice on the menu: a little bit from everything, as you can see on the picture.
We both decided to go with the assiette of salmon, tuna and shrimp to begin. My mother chose for second fish and the “Gitzi” a little mountain goat, for main. I went for salad and prime beef with fresh liver, just beautifully in taste and presentation.
The owner told us he was there since 26 years and also his wife, daughter and son work there. Normally you would think maybe this is not the kid’s choice but they did it with so much passion and pleasure we felt almost “invited at a friend’s house”.
Specially, I would like to mention that we sat in the glass pavilion in the middle of the wonderful green garden arranged with countless handcrafted pots, plants and flowers. It must be beautiful also in summer but if it is a little chilly you have always the choice to sit inside. Two cats are also living in the house, so don’t be surprised, if a little fur ball strikes and purrs around your legs under the table…..

Insel Ufenau

Ufenau – After having visited several restaurants around the lake, I have to declare that the restaurant on the little island Ufenau serves the best “Fischknusperli” – small pieces of fish (from the lake of Zurich) fried in a pastry. The restaurant and the whole island belong to the convent of Einsiedeln (http://www.kloster-einsiedeln.ch/) and its history dates back to the year 965 AD. You can reach the island only by boat either with the public transport boats from Lachen, Zurich or Rapperswil or with a private boat. The restaurant itself is very simple and self service but really good value for the money.
