Josef – Tapas style dinner

Zurich – Josef has been a good address for good food for many years. It was an evening with my siblings were I was looking for a restaurant that match all type of “gusto” and something not too posh. What also kept me from visiting were the two shifts in the evening. I found out that this concept does not apply during the week. So the table was reserved on a Tuesday, as it was a warm and sunny day, we could even sit outside on the small terrace. The food is still very good as I remembered it.

I was so excited about the evening that three weeks later I reserved a table there again.

Kokoro – Authentic Japanese in Zurich

Zurich – I have heard many good things about Kokoro (the heart) but never managed to get a table. Some weeks ago I finally managed to book one. I was amazed and thrown back to Japan. The food was amazing, the staff very friendly and efficient and even the toilets are Japanese style (insiders know).

So if you are looking for an authentic Japanese dinner – not only containing sushi – you should reserve your table already today.

The prizes for the food are reasonable, but beware, the sake prizes add to the bill….

I will take some pics when I go next time….

Kleine Freiheit – Mezze in Zurich

Zurich – Fancy some mezze? In the middle of town towards the university area, there is a small restaurant with a beautiful cozy garden with a lot of trees and bushes (where little mice and birds are living). There are some tables inside but lots more outside in the garden with colorful umbrellas.

The service at “Kleine Freiheit” is very friendly and they get their food freshly made every day from their neighbors called “Orient Catering“. As the name says it is also a catering service for parties and apéros but they serve food at 3 to 4 different tables.

In my opinion they have the best hummus and the best falafel far and wide … try it out.

Elisaburg – Medeterranean food in the heart of “Zurich Wiedikon”

Zurich – Last week I went for dinner with my brother. Elisaburg is located close to Bahnhof Wiedikon, in the centre of Wiedikon.

Last time I have been to Elisaburg must be at least 6 years ago, so I can’t remember to much – except that I liked it a lot.

The atmosphere in the small room is very warm and welcoming – like you were in some friend’s house invited for dinner. It is very relaxed and the staff very friendly and attentive.

The food is mainly Mediterranean: a lot of sea food, pasta, meat and a loads of tasty wines at reasonable prices.

Da Michelangelo – Still one of the best pizza in Zurich!

Zurich – Are you up for a really good pizza or a simple pasta dish in a relaxed atmosphere? Then you should go to “da Michelangelo”. This family-friendly restaurant is serving authentic Italian food and has been a popular address in “Kreis 3” for many, many years.

Yesterday, I finally visited the restaurant again after some 6 or 7 years. I was amazed that the restaurant pretty much still looked the same, except that they replaced the cold neon light with a nice ambient style warm lighting.

The pizza I had was as delicious as I remembered it and the food of my friends also looked great and was very tasty.

The restaurant was packed with people when we left and I can’t wait for my next visit.

Nachtjäger

Zurich – This restaurant was recommended by a friend. When I googled it I found out that it partners with one of my favourite restaurants in Zurich: Cafe Boy.

We were surprised by the inspired and – for us new combinations as octopus with licorice and blood pudding with apples…all very yummy.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and you sit on long wooden tables, sometimes with other people.

Definitively a place I want to go again.

Equitable – Sustainable and regional top quality food

Zurich – For our anniversary my hubby and I went to Equitable. I already heard many good things about it and it was on my to do list for long.

The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent as were the wines. They have a set menu from about 3 to 8 courses so you get a lot to taste what the Equitable team creates in the tiny kitchen.

Nevertheless to mention, it is a little pricey.

Katzentisch at Münsterhof – Side table concept

Zurich – There is a new concept for dining out in Zurich: Katzentisch. Have you ever tried to find a table in one of the good restaurants in Zurich on a Friday or Saturday evening? It can be quite difficult some time.

Katzentisch solves your problem and promotes the side tables that are available in town on a daily basis and adds a goodie to a usually special set menu.

I wanted to dine in Münsterhof since some time but tended to forget about its existence. But yesterday, it was announced in the Katzentisch newsletter and so we enjoyed a 4 course menu with wine pairing. The restaurant is just around he corner of Paradeplatz in a historic house from the Middle Ages. There are even some important original “Secco” paintings on the walls. Surrounded by history the rest of the interior is modern and warm as is the staff very friendly and attentive.

If I go again, I would definitively order the Burger…it looked amazing.
