The Hungry Cat

Santa Barbara – During our California holidays last December we ate in a really nice restaurant my best friend recommended to me. Again we were treated with delicious seafood and chose oysters as starter. Unfortunately the big seafood platter was out….maybe the cat? The restaurant has “siblings” in Santa Monica and Hollywood.

At this point I wanted to recommend a friend’s lifestyle blog called Citybabble that provides tips around the world for good places to go and see and much more interesting subjects. I really loved her latest post about the grand brunch in Zurich.

Eder’s Eichmühle

Wädenswil – To reach the restaurant is not too easy, but once there, the place is just picturesquely located between trees on a hill and from the parking you have a beautiful view over the lake. The house is quite old….ladies room a little mountain climbing with the tiny steps they have from the old days.
But let’s speak about the food. My mother invited me for a nice Easter lunch menu. There was a good choice on the menu: a little bit from everything, as you can see on the picture.
We both decided to go with the assiette of salmon, tuna and shrimp to begin. My mother chose for second fish and the “Gitzi” a little mountain goat, for main. I went for salad and prime beef with fresh liver, just beautifully in taste and presentation.
The owner told us he was there since 26 years and also his wife, daughter and son work there. Normally you would think maybe this is not the kid’s choice but they did it with so much passion and pleasure we felt almost “invited at a friend’s house”.
Specially, I would like to mention that we sat in the glass pavilion in the middle of the wonderful green garden arranged with countless handcrafted pots, plants and flowers. It must be beautiful also in summer but if it is a little chilly you have always the choice to sit inside. Two cats are also living in the house, so don’t be surprised, if a little fur ball strikes and purrs around your legs under the table…..

Time(s) for a crispy Wiener Schnitzel!

Zurich – Yesterday I actually wanted to go to an Italian restaurant with a very good friend of mine. But we had to find out that all the Italian and Spanish restaurants were closed due to Easter Holiday.
So we just went to Langstrasse area and asked first at restaurant Josef. This is normally one of my favourite restaurants food-wise but they still have the two times selling the table for one evening. We walked down the street and we both remembered the Times. I was there already about 2 years and had only good memories.
We started with the “Times Special” Drink, a mix of sake, prosecco, lime which was really refreshing. My friend chose the tuna tatar with a passion fruit-orange-chili sauce and I went for the ceviche with pomegranate. Both dishes so tasty we asked the chef to reveal his recipe…what he did.
As I already had the Wiener schnitzel with the pommes alumettes I couldn’t resist it and my friend neither. Can a Wiener schnitzel be too crispy? Definitively one of my favourite although there is not much left of the meat….but the combination just yummy. Dessert was as well just fantastic with a chocolate tart, melting inside with Acai ice-cream. Go indulge yourself!

Madonna! What a good pasta!

Zurich – This week I went for lunch to Madonna – an Italilan restaurant I haven’t been for some time. I ordered the lunch menu with salad and pasta, made with fresh vegetables and a large spoon with crème freche. My colleague had meat filled giant ravioli and was really happy with his choice as well. They also serve meat and fish and it is good value to eat lunch around main station and Bahnhofstrasse area. In the evening it turns also into a bar and club but I haven’t been there until now.
