Zurich – My favourite Thai restaurant in Zurich is the Keo Inn as the food is very authentic and service very nice and attentive. They even have the marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, one of my preferred. The Keo Inn is open 365 days a year and the atmosphere very relaxed and you feel comfortable in a suit directly after work or in a casual dress.

Tinto – Tapas a gogo
Zurich – Up for some Spanish tapas? You need to go to Tinto, in the middle of Zurich’s lively Kreis 4. You can choose from a big variety of tapas or take the “tapas a gogo” and let yourself surprise by the cook. I like this food which is a mix of vegetables, fish, seafood and meat, you almost feel in Spain….my second favourite kitchen after Italian. The small plates are traditional Spanish tapas, some new interpreted. The wines are all excellent including my favourite rose cava: De nit!
The Tinto has also a nice wine cellar for small groups and some tables outside. The atmosphere is very relaxed, you feel welcome with the little black dress or also in jeans.
So definitely one of my favourites in Zurich.
Schützengasse
Zurich – This restaurant opened some year ago and got his name from the street it is located. The food is mainly Italian with some Swiss classics. The food is quite good although there are differences. I would recommend pasta first before meat or fish. The wine list is very good assorted.
I visited this restaurant at least 5 times in the evening and also for lunch since its opening. The service is very nice and friendly, only one friend was not very lucky with the timing of her dish that was just being served when we have eaten our last bites already. But they offered some coffee and digestives instead. The restaurant’s atmosphere is that of an old building that had a good renovating and brought back the beautiful mahogany wooden floors, “kassettenwände” nicely white painted and so on. At weekends it can get really loud with party music after dessert….
In summer there is also a nice terrace outside.
Hopfenau – new in Wiedikon
Zurich – Maybe two month ago the new restaurant Hopfenau opened its doors in the heart of Zurich Wiedikon, at the same named street, Hopfenstrasse. Before, Delmonico offered Italian gourmet food in that building for some 4 years. Now Hopfenau is the “Quartierrestaurant” for the workers over lunch and the neighbours living in the area, but of course will hopefully also be visited soon by outsiders.
The food was decent and the service very attentively and nice. The atmosphere in the small restaurant is very laid back, accompanied by muted lounge music while you have a nice view through the big windows.
Bar Basso
Zurich – Recently I went to Bar Basso restaurant with a friend to have a relaxed evening and decent dinner. I can really recommend the pizzas there as they have a proper wood fired oven. The other food – mostly Italina style – on the plates looked also yummy. The restaurant is informal and very relaxed in a nice atmosphere. The prices are ok for what you get. They have a terrace outside in summer as well.
Bar Basso belongs to another restaurant in Zurich that is open already for many years, the Rosso www.restaurant-rosso.ch.
Hiltl still on my Hitlist
Zurich – Last week I spent a chatting evening with the ladies and we decided – as many times before – to have dinner at the Hiltl. The Hiltl was the first vegetarian restaurant in Zurich and for me – the best I know.
The good thing about the Hiltl is that after the delicious choices of fresh and mostly healthy food you find something for every taste and appetite. They have a big buffet with warm and cold dishes and salads and you pay per gram. The staff is always very friendly although the restaurant on different levels is always packed!
There is also a club and a lounge.
Lindenhofkeller
Zurich – On a Friday evening we went to Lindenhofkeller. I heard so many good things and always wanted to go…but Zurich offers just too many choices. Finally, we managed to get a table, because without reservation it is just not possible.
As a starter my company chose the veal cheeks, he just loved the dish and I went for a beautiful presented lobster and crab variation (see pics). The main course is the house specialty which is veal (from the back of the calf) cooked at low temperature with different sauces and side dishes you can choose from, this was very decent. Actually I like more the red and aromatic meat.
The Lindenhofkeller is a cosy, romantic and very elegant restaurant with a lot of ambiance and history. You can go there with friends, your husband or even as a treat to invite your parents, they will all feel very comfortable in the Lindenhofkeller.
Le Cèdre – Libanese Mezze at their best!
Zurich – This morning I couldn’t wait to write my new post.
I was with friends in the “Le Cèdre” – haven’t been there for years – and I must say it was just a great evening. Maurice, the owner wrote down our order and recommended us some Lebanese white wine and fresh mango-passion fruit to start. But before we even started to eat the first course, the belly dancing show started. This young lady danced with so much passion and the biggest smile on her face that we could not resist to permanently stare at her.
Then – wow the mezze were served plate after plate until the table was fully covered with no chance to place one more. If you ever go there I strongly recommend ordering the following mezze and not a combined menu:
fattet hommos (chick peas with yogurt and garlic…warm, extraordinary delicious)
tabbouleh (salad with parsley, tomatoes, cracked wheat)
hommos (chick pea and tahini paste)
mutabal (grilled aubergine with tahini paste)
fatayer (dough triangles with spinach…. warm)
arayes bi lahme (flat pita bread with meat inside…. warm)
fattoush (salad with crusty pita bread pieces) – the version with the pomegranate juice
falafel
mixed grill
Maurice told us at the end of the evening a little bit about how he started his restaurant (almost 20 years ago) and opened the second one close to Bellevue some years ago. So he said he has not two children but 4….
