Harbour House – Lunch by the sea

Kalk Bay – Today we enjoyed a great and delicious fish and seafood lunch right next to the sea in Kalk Bay, 45mnts drive from Cape Town.

The waves were so big the water splashed on the windows. From the terrace you can watch the sealions playing with each other.

Really worth the way. There is another HH in Cape Town but I guess not at all that spectacular in terms of the view.

Cafe Boy – Oh boy…..!

Zurich – I have heard many good things about Cafe Boy. Finally, two weeks ago, I could experience it myself. I had veal liver on my plate – perfectly cooked and a beautiful flavour as it has to be! My friend chose veal on a celery-truffled mash…luckily she let me steal some of her food to try.

We also enjoyed some glasses of red wine from Mallorca, that paired perfectly.

Definitively worth going again soon…maybe today?

Hotel and Restaurant Krone

Sihlbrugg /Hirzel – I read an article about this restaurant in “Zurich geht aus” and it sounded quite good.

Today, I went for a relaxed Sunday lunch and it was just great and I would not have expected such good food! Normally, I’m not a “sauce-lover” but I had one of the tastiest experiences with this foie-gras sauce today….I could not wait longer to write about it.

With the sauce…obviously…came a dish and a whole sundays menu. It started with tagliolini with cray fish and it looked just lovely with the little red crabs arranged in a triangle (see pic below). The pheasant was honoured to lay next to the addictive sauce, accompanied by Brussels sprout, red cabbace and potatoe “knödel”.

We spent all in all 3 hours in the restaurant and were pampered from start to end with a lovely crew, all dressed in beautiful dirndl-dresses.

Chez Crettol – Cheese fondue and raclette in Zurich “Valais style”

Küsnacht

Do you like cheese?

At Chez Crettole you get the best cheese fondue and raclette outside Valais region in Switzerland. You can choose from many different styles and sizes of fondues and raclette cheese is melded at the open fire place – wonderful!

There is no Internet page but another experience from another blogger I like Harrys Ding.

Auberge de L’ill – Alsace at its best

Illhaeusern near Colmar

This summer, I invited my husband for his round birthday to a short trip to Alsace in France.

During the day we visited Colmar which is such a pretty little city and it looks like it has been all painted from a fairy tale book…

Overnight we stayed in a lovely hotel just about 15 minutes from the Auberge, called Hotel de L’illwald. A really nice place and built in the same typical style the houses are in Colmar (timber framing).

But now to the highlight of the evening. The chef Mr Haeberlin ears three stars in the Michelin guide and the family has a long tradition in this house. The venue is embedded in the countryside and the river Ill flows calm and nicely in front of the garden. People told me, normally there are a lot of swans swimming in there, but I guess it was their day off…

We enjoyed the apéro in the garden area, before we were let to our table. We were placed in a very private bay of the restaurant which made it even more romantic.

I think, this time the pictures need to speak about the food as this would be 5 pages or longer. Of course we had the tasting menu with – I really do not remember – about 8 courses that were absolutely amazingly delicious! The staff of course was also very nice and professional.

So, I recommend to go and try once…but beware of the prices 😉

Pearl Brasserie – A gem in Dublin

Dublin – If you have enough from hamburgers, Irish stew and beer (not Guinness of course…) you should pay a visit to Pearl Brasserie.

We enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu with pairing wine for not more than 110 Euro which we found just fantastic. The food was delicious and the service (mainly French people) adorable and professional. You need a reservation and best do it 1 week in advance.

George Grill – Looking terrific!

Zurich – A new restaurant in town that is worth waiting a week for a table. I visited George last week with a colleague for lunch. Already the way up to the top floor of the OBER building in the lift promises that there must be something special up there.
The welcome was very warm and friendly and we enjoyed a really nice table at the window as asked for in the reservation.
My salad was huge but not at all less in taste, to be hones one of the best salad I had in a long time in a restaurant. When I saw Tatar on the menu….I knew I had to go for this. I was not disappointed at all. I had the small portion for lunch and struggled to eat it up even though it was so good.
Therefore, I award George with 10 points for food, atmosphere, service, view and can’t wait to go again.

Keo Inn

Keo Inn, best Thai in town with its special charme just next to Langstrasse.

Never to forget Poo’s Asia Shop and Take away in Wädenswil http://www.siamasiashop.ch

Zurich – My favourite Thai restaurant in Zurich is the Keo Inn as the food is very authentic and service very nice and attentive. They even have the marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, one of my preferred. The Keo Inn is open 365 days a year and the atmosphere very relaxed and you feel comfortable in a suit directly after work or in a casual dress.
