Time(s) for a crispy Wiener Schnitzel!

Zurich – Yesterday I actually wanted to go to an Italian restaurant with a very good friend of mine. But we had to find out that all the Italian and Spanish restaurants were closed due to Easter Holiday.
So we just went to Langstrasse area and asked first at restaurant Josef. This is normally one of my favourite restaurants food-wise but they still have the two times selling the table for one evening. We walked down the street and we both remembered the Times. I was there already about 2 years and had only good memories.
We started with the “Times Special” Drink, a mix of sake, prosecco, lime which was really refreshing. My friend chose the tuna tatar with a passion fruit-orange-chili sauce and I went for the ceviche with pomegranate. Both dishes so tasty we asked the chef to reveal his recipe…what he did.
As I already had the Wiener schnitzel with the pommes alumettes I couldn’t resist it and my friend neither. Can a Wiener schnitzel be too crispy? Definitively one of my favourite although there is not much left of the meat….but the combination just yummy. Dessert was as well just fantastic with a chocolate tart, melting inside with Acai ice-cream. Go indulge yourself!

Palo Alto Creamery – Nothing better for a Sunday brunch

Palo Alto – Silicon Valley does not only offer the latest technical devices but also a lot of good restaurants. In one of them we spent our New Year’s Day brunch. After a long night dedicated to a lot of bubbly stuff we needed some real food and my burger with juicy meat and freshly cut avocado was just perfect to regain energy.

They also serve great milkshakes – 5 seconds in mouth, 5 months on the hips….

The Addison – fine food deluxe

San Diego – After all the fast food we wanted to go for a posh dinner. We read about this exclusive place already at home. They serve various set menus of which we took the 6 course surprise menu.

The atmosphere is very elegant and you feel as in a historic building from the early 20ties.

The food was extraordinary delicious and service very attentive. The room is huge and as heating is not very popular in California we decided to take our dessert at the warming fireplace.

Hiltl – now with vegetarian butchery

Zurich I have already written about Hiltl in an earlier post. Last week I went again for lunch….I cannot explain, but although I love meat, the vegetarian food and the cool and relaxed atmosphere is unbeaten. The former animal shop around the corner is now the vegetarian butchery attached to the Hiltl concept – how applicable!

New Point – Kebap Forever

Zurich – I went to see “Filth” in Riff Raff last Wednesday….what a laugh and drama in one piece….

But to satisfy our stomach besides the risible muscle we went to New point, probably the best kebap place outside Turkey. Served with a cold beer this is something that just makes you happy, I promise!

Reach out for the stars at Sternen

Walchwil – At the border of Lake Zug is this beautiful historic house from 1834 made of wood.

The hosts were very welcoming and astonished me even more as they remembered that my mother celebrated her birthday and wanted to bring her dog.

We all went for the 4 courses dinner of the seasonal menu but different choices. I chose the seafood platter as a starter that remembered me on a day by the sea with a small lobster soup with lobster, scallops and king prawns – beautiful. My next lucullan highlight was fresh duck liver on a lemon risotto with heavenly honey. I did not think the main course could top this, but my venison was just perfect in taste and texture. All the traditional side dishes as spaetzle, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts and sweet chestnut were presented in homoeopathic doses but just right to leave some space for dessert.

I have to admit that I felt a little engorged….on contrary to my wallet!

Parkhotel Vitznau – Sleeping Beauty has woken up

Vitznau – Actually the photo has been taken already in September, one of these nice warm afternoons. We were on our way to Weggis and made a little detour to Vitznau to explore the recently renovated Parkhotel.

This stunning house is definitely worth going again. There are two restaurants, one more bistro style – “prisma” in a glass cube, and the other a gourmet temple called “focus” (16 Gault Millau).
We enjoyed a cocktail on the terrace overlooking lakeVierwaldstättersee and the mountains.

Caduff’s Wine loft – Wild thing

Zurich – yesterday we went to Caduff’s Wine Loft with friends. I haven’t been there for at least 10 years.

At the moment they have their “venison week”. Beat Caduff is hunting in the mountains and brings the best shots to his Wine Loft. The food was really fantastic and you can experience a difference in quality. We had “Hirschpfeffer” some kind of stew, entrecote, and I tried for the first time in my life a grouse. The service was really nice and attentive. We also visited the really impressive wine cellar and could choose our own red wine and take it back to the table. We also found the 4kilos wine in one of the shelves (don’t miss to watch their videos). We visited this special boutique bodega when we were in Mallorca. Caduff is now preparing for “Metzgete” weeks, difficult to translate, maybe “butchers party” after slaughtering can explain. Usually celebrated in the months of October and November. I’m longing forward to it….but more about that next week.
