Zurich – Yesterday a friend invited to celebrate his 10th anniversary of his own communication company to Tapas del Mar. We were pampered with tapas and wine as well as stimulating chatting. The restaurant is the second after the first one was opened in Basel. The tapas are traditional Spanish (Andalusian style). There is also a terrace in summer on a street without cars passing by.

Maison Manesse
Zurich – Tatar from the Bison, sweet Hamachi with radish and avocado, egg 63° (poached for an hour at 63°) on asparagus, confit suckling pig (belly part) with lychees and anise, Melon with popping candy accompanied by cava and a great Swiss red wine from Döttingen “Weingut zum Sternen” (see pic). That was our food for the evening – a new relaxed “fine dining” restaurant that just opened 2 weeks ago and was packed with people.
Some may remember the former restaurant at this spot that was an old traditional restaurant where people went for their cordon-bleu, a beer or two, rooms kept all in dark wood. This was never very inviting for me…so I was very curious to see what happened to the place.
The guys from Maison Manesse obviously needed to use a lot of white colour to give the restaurant this all new look. What I like about it, you still can see this building whit its own live but that has finally received a well deserved rejuvenating cure. You can feel the people working at the MM love what they do and as a guest this is great.
The inside is kept all in white with beautiful old lamps and a particular tableware called Serax to give every dish its well-deserved framing.
Maison Manesse is costly, but its not a simple restaurant you just eat a pizza….so go and explore on your own!
Loft Five
Zurich – In the new opened trendy area around the main station of Zurich (Europaallee) there is this great restaurant. It offers something for everyone and divided in different areas: Coffee and cake in the morning, fine dining for lunch and dinner and apéro location with a terrace outside. The restaurant is just opposite the railway tracks.
The food and drinks are not cheap but the quality is good and the people that work there very nice. One of the guys even went to the kiosk to buy some cigarettes for my friend because they do not have a machine (yet). I really recommend the beef tatar (hot) or the James Joyce burger – the Loft Five belongs to the Carlton Group. I discovered a rare thing on the wine list, see pic, you can buy the “Lynch Bages” by the glass…

Zurich – Last Thursday I went with three friends to Geroldchuchi for lunch. It’s new open since some weeks and I thought as long as I work in the area I will give it a try. The ambiance is very … Continue reading
Les Halles
Zurich – Last week I went for lunch with two colleagues to Les Halles. Do not confuse with La Salle, just about 2 minutes walk away but a totally different style and different prices.
Over lunch the people in Les Halles offer menus that have a good value. Drinks you get from the bar and adding up a little coin you also get a coffee included. In the evening it is highly recommended to make a reservation.
The atmosphere and decoration is fantastic with everything in retro one can find of the last 40 years. Les Halles offers also some tables outside and a little shop for cheese and dried meat.
Bü’s
Zurich – Last Wednesday I went to Bü’s restaurant with a friend. I haven’t been there since years but always remembered the delicious calf’s liver (only on Tuesdays). The interior of the restaurant is a mix of bistro-Italian-cosy-elegant style. People are mostly over their 40ties. The service is very nice and attentive, legendary are the shirts of the owner…you must see yourself. The Bü’s is very popular and you need to book a table in advance except you are an Egyptian real estate investor in Andermatt you get a table immediately…Prices are moderate to high for what you get in quality and the food quite good. I need to go back for the liver on a Tuesday though.
PanEolio
Zurich – Some weeks ago we discovered a restaurant as we were walking toward Le Cèdre. It looked so nice and lively I knew I must go there. So we enjoyed a real nice Italian, Sicilian dinner. The food, especially the home made pasta was excellent. Only to mention was my fish that had a lot of fish bones. The restaurant could also be one in Italy where you go with your whole family and enjoy and just sit there, equal is the acoustic level inside. Id like to mention specially the waiter that explained every single meal and made our mouth watering before we even saw the food in front of us!
Siam Asia Shop
Wädenswil – A friend of mine grew up in Thailand and came to Switzerland with about 20 years. Today she has her own take away and Asian food store in Wädenswil. She also does catering and cooking classes. I have never eaten better Thai food as at her home and I tried to learn from her in her cooking class….the only thing I can do quite properly now are the satay skewers (see recipe below).
