Ponte Brolla – This is one of the very old grotti in Ticino that was on the passage of many travellers since 400 years ago with direction Genova to the big ships leaving for “America”. The menu is small but … Continue reading
Ufenau – After having visited several restaurants around the lake, I have to declare that the restaurant on the little island Ufenau serves the best “Fischknusperli” – small pieces of fish (from the lake of Zurich) fried in a pastry. The restaurant and the whole island belong to the convent of Einsiedeln (http://www.kloster-einsiedeln.ch/) and its history dates back to the year 965 AD. You can reach the island only by boat either with the public transport boats from Lachen, Zurich or Rapperswil or with a private boat. The restaurant itself is very simple and self service but really good value for the money.

Brissago – Still in vacation in Ticino but it rains like there is no tomorrow! So we thought let’s find a nice restaurant for lunch at the lake and enjoy the cooler air after the incredible heat. In Brissago we … Continue reading
Mallorca – In 2011 we celebrated our marriage at this magical place. We were looking for a location we could house all guests with optimized “good weather guarantee” and good food and wine. By browsing in the internet we found the Casal de Santa Eulàlia and put it on our favourites list with some other hotels and fincas. After an on-site inspection in Mallorca it was crystal clear that the Eulàlia was OUR location.
The staff is wonderfully friendly and one can see they work together like a family. As it is an old finca, the rural house is large opening and the rooms are all different; some with balcony some with terrace. The complex has different pools and even a tennis court.
Specially to mention is the kitchen: I have never had better pork meat than in the Eulàlia! The special pigs with black trotters (The meat is also known dried as “pata negra”) are feed with acorn. The Eulàlia has its own garden and grows a lot of vegetables, fruits and herbs for the kitchen.
It is just a wonderful place to relax, celebrate and as a starting point of countless excursions. Last time we have been there in 2012 and I can’t wait to return.
Hurden – Vacation in Switzerland is great if the weather is good. So we planned to go out for dinner by boat and I wanted to go somewhere we haven’t been yet. I looked at my special map – I got from a friend – with restaurants with a landing dock. We chose the Rössli, neighbour of the Adler (blog to follow). Unfortunately it started to rain just as we set off and it only stopped when we returned home.
But the visit was worthwhile. The service was very nice and they tried their best but with the rain and all the guests moving inside it was a bit hectic. The view is really nice and the atmosphere Mediterranean. It is also a popular spot to get married as a little chapel is located just next door. The tatar (beef from Heinzer…seems to be en vogue) was good although “hot” needed some spice up by ourselves. The bi-colour chocolate mousse (see pic) was yummy and worth all the calories.
Zurich -With my girlfriends I met at Terrasse for an apero and dinner. The bar and restaurant is centrally located near Bellevue, what is also a reason we go there now and then. The special thing about the Terrasse though is not the food or drinks but the history that is in this building (Tages-Anzeiger). This beautiful complex was originally a grand hotel, then a café, a cabaret, a cinema and again a restaurant. My first memories are when we went watching Walt Disney films on Saturday afternoons with my siblings followed by a grilled sausage at the Sternen Grill.
Now back to the Terrasse: they serve decent food and the service is nice. As a side dish you can do plenty of people watching. The garden of the Terrasse is lovely in summer.

Freienbach – Last week my mother visited us and she wanted to eat out at a nice place. So we chose Obstgarten as I haven’t been there for a year and wanted to check whether it was still as good as it was. The Obstgarten has 16 GaultMillau points and divided the restaurant in two parts; one is the bistro and the other the gourmet. We had Wiener Schitzel (with brown panade) and luke warm cucumber salad. It was really good and the portions fair. For my taste it could have been a little crispier. The service was very friendly and attentive. I think, I need to go again in the evening in the Gourmet part. When I made the reservation I asked if we can bring the dog and when we came, there was already a bowl with water ready for her.
